An "Addition" to the "Family"
Paul here. In the past I’ve been making our armguards using this lovely old machine.
It’s been in Annette’s family since 1907. I was able to return it to full functionality a few years ago. It been great because being an old treadle machine, it has proven itself to be able to even sew leather. Nonetheless it has always been slow and cranky.
Well, last Sunday we bit the bullet and went out and bought a new heavy duty Tuff Sew commercial sewing machine. After much research we drove down to Tom’s Vac and Sew in Vallejo California and bought this bad boy brand new. We had him fitted with a heavy flywheel to replace the hand wheel, and boy he sure gets the job done now. We call him “Big Wheel.”
And here he is in his new home!
We’re looking forward to putting Big Wheel to work with us.

18.25245043 BTC (approx CAD $1.6 million) was drained from my account on July 29th in the Coldcard wallet hack. My Bitcoin was in cold storage. My keys were stored on a Coldcard device that was kept in a safety deposit box and had never been connected to the internet. However, hackers discovered a vulnerability in the portion of the hardware wallet’s code used to generate seed phrases. This allowed them to use AI to brute-force seed phrase guesses. I was at our cottage and only heard about the hack today.
“No way this affects me,” I thought.
I logged into the Wasabi Wallet software to view my Bitcoin wallets.
Right away, I saw a series of red withdrawal transactions, and I knew.
Between 9:36 p.m. and 9:43 p.m. on July 29, every wallet I had had been emptied.
18.25245043 BTC was gone. That’s just over CAD $1.6 million.
Perhaps the hardest part was that I did everything right.
