Here is a piece that I wrote some time ago for a discussion forum. It is about what happens to an arrow immediately following the release. When an arrow is released a series of bends and vibrations is created. Those oscillations have a direct affect upon what we we're doing when we tune a bow and arrow. Over time this article has been viewed and shared here and there. Just recently it caught the attention of an arrow shaft manufacturer. Wayne at True Shaft Archery wanted to start sharing it from his site. (Here is their store: http://www.trueshaftarchery.com/ ) Well his...
Step Up
Here is a departure from what I have been posting in these pages. It is more about the Psychology of shooting and is a more subjective piece rather than technical. There is one thing that I can talk about from my own experiences and that is having a case of Tournament Nerves or "The Jitters" at the start of a tournament. I have competed at many levels, from local events to the International level. Sometimes, for whatever reasons I may have, a particular event will be exceptionally important to me. I’ll find myself all jumpy, and itchy and...
Info for New Shooters
Although we carry stuff here for shooters from beginner's to advanced, we do all have to start somewhere. So in this post I want add some material for the beginner. When looking at archery instruction and coaching it actually all rests upon a simple foundational concept which is commonly called "T-Form." When the shooter draws the bow and gets their string hand back to their face, their anchor point, their body looks like a big letter "T." Whether we're looking at beginning shooting or the more advanced courses of instruction and the high level successful shooters, we will see that big...
Take Aim
My prior entries have al been about tuning so far. A critical part of tuning is shooting at the same place every time. You need to aim in one fashion or another so that when you examine results from tuning you know that what you see at the target is an actual reflection of what is going on with your arrow flight. Now if you're shooting with a sight, aiming is a fairly straight forward proposition. But when shooting without a sight, perhaps the most common question is "How do I aim this thing?" The following has been floating around...
Aero-Flight Test Data
I had made note of the fact that our test data on the Aero-Flight vanes is available by request. But now that I have gotten that information about tuning posted, I wanted to make our test data easier to access. In its simplest boiled down form here it all is so far. Testing of course continues. Arrow Velocity @ Bow fps=Feet per Second Aero-Flights = 170 fps avg. Blazer = 170 fps avg. Spin-Wings=172 fps avg. Arrow Velocity @ 30 Yards Aero-Flights = 164 fps avg. Blazer = 162 fps avg Spin-Wings=164 fps avg. Vane Length, Height &...
